Managing your Freegal Library
When Freegal was originally introduced to the library world, there was a significant wrinkle in the IOS app that was less than ideal. At that time, music that was downloaded to your iPhone or iPad via the Freegal app remained trapped within the app. Happily, that is no longer the case. Your music can be transferred to your Mac or PC using iTunes and from there can be moved into any music management app you prefer to use and can be backed up along with the rest of your important files. Just follow the steps below:
Plug your iOS device into your computer. Please select "Yes" if you see a pop-up asking if you trust this device.
Open up iTunes and you will either see an area titled "devices" on the left side or a button with your device's name on the upper right side of your screen. Click on the device you have plugged into your computer.
At the top of the screen you will have options like "Summary, Info, Apps, Music, Movies, etc." Select "Apps."
From there, scroll down to File Sharing and select the Freegal app. Once highlighted, you should be able to view a file that contains the music downloaded from the app.
For Mac users, take that file and simply drag it to your desktop background.
If you are using a PC, please use the "Save to" button to transfer files to your computer. This will save the music to your desktop or any folder you select.
Now that the music is in your desktop, you can move this music into any music application you choose, including iTunes by dragging and dropping individual songs to the new location. Once your songs are in iTunes you can sync it with your IOS device along with all of your other music for convenience.
PLEASE NOTE: If you need to get a new library card for any reason, you will lose access to your Freegal downloads within the app unless you move the files out of the IOS or Android app and back them up.
