How do I get a Richland Library card?
Richland Library cards are free for residents and property owners in Richland County, South Carolina. You may get a card at any of our locations or sign up for a Courtesy Card online. Click the Log In/Sign Up and Get a Library Card to get started.
A Courtesy Card will expire after a few weeks unless it is upgraded to a Resident Card in person. Residents should bring a photo ID showing your Richland County address when you come to register. If your ID does not list a Richland County address bring along a bill, lease, property tax receipt or other official document that will show proof of Richland County residency or property ownership.
If you live in a neighboring county and would like to purchase a nonresident library card, apply online, in person or call (803) 929-3441. Nonresident cards are $65 per year.
Free cards are also available for out-of-county residents who are members of the military stationed in Columbia temporarily, teachers in Richland County schools, owners or directors of child care facilities located in Richland County, students attending colleges in Richland County and employees of Richland County Government. These special cards may be acquired in person with current ID/documentation and can be renewed annually.
Once you have your Richland Library card you will be able to check out 60 items at a time and download ebooks or audiobooks, magazines, and music from our website. You also will be able to access our numerous research tools from outside the library any time of day.
