Two Days Left
The health insurance deadline is Sunday, January 31, 2016; that is less than three days away. It is the deadline. It is the date when open enrollment ends. It is the last day you can purchase health insurance without a “qualifying life circumstance” such as marriage or birth.
If you do not have health coverage by January 31 it will affect you in several ways:
1. You will be unable to purchase health insurance until the next open enrollment period.
2. If you seek to purchase health insurance after this date you will not be able to use the Marketplace and therefore will not be able to receive money from the federal government to help you pay for it
3. If you will not have had health insurance for at least 9 months during 2016, you will have to pay a financial penalty for not having insurance. That penalty has increased; it is now $695 per adult or 2.5% of your income.
4. You may not have health coverage in 2016 and will be financially responsible for any medical needs or emergencies you may have.
