If You Have Consumers Choice, You Need to Take Action by December 15
SC Department of Insurance Director Ray Farmer is reminding Consumers’ Choice Health Plan (CCHP) members that they need to enroll in a replacement plan by December 15th in order to ensure they have health insurance coverage beginning January 1, 2016. The company is terminating all of their health insurance plans on December 31, 2015 and will not be offering plans for 2016. CCHP currently provides coverage in the individual and small group markets covering individuals, families, and small employers with up to 50 employees. As of October 2015 the insurer provided coverage to approximately 67,000 South Carolinians, almost all of whom purchased through Healthcare.gov.
According to federal officials, less than 35% of these individuals have taken action to secure a replacement plan for 2016. "Please don’t wait any longer to act or you may not have health insurance to cover your prescriptions and other immediate medical needs come January 1st,” said Director Farmer. The Department has worked with CCHP to compile a list of Frequently Asked Questions for impacted consumers individuals and small businesses.
